OpenClaw 2026.7.1: Biggest Update Yet β€” New Control UI, Mobile Apps, GPT-5.6 Support & Smarter Automation

πŸ“… July 14, 2026 Β· By Tony Slavin

OpenClaw 2026.7.1 is here, and it’s massive. This release brings together 3,063 contributions from 532 contributors β€” making it the largest single update in OpenClaw’s history. Whether you use OpenClaw on the web, desktop, or mobile, this update touches almost every part of the platform.

The headline: a completely overhauled Control UI, major updates to the iOS, Android, and macOS apps, expanded model support including GPT-5.6 compatibility, and substantial improvements to Telegram, Slack, Discord, and Apple Messages integration. Plus, Gateway crash loops are a thing of the past.

What’s New

πŸŽ›οΈ Control UI Overhaul

Conversations are now easier to organize and work with side by side. The new interface brings live Tasks, clearer chat controls, better usage and cost views, file management, downloads, pairing, approvals, and Gateway health indicators β€” all kept close to the conversation. No more jumping between screens to check on your agent’s work.

πŸš€ Easier Setup from Install to First Chat

Getting started with OpenClaw is now significantly smoother. Guided setup walks you through clearer steps toward a working first chat, checks connections before saving them, and preserves your earlier choices if setup is interrupted. New users can go from install to first AI task faster than ever.

πŸ“± Native App Updates (iOS, Android, macOS)

All three official apps received substantial work β€” setup, navigation, chat, voice, permissions, localization, files, scheduled work, offline reading, queued sends, connection recovery, and native session controls. If you’ve been waiting for a reason to try the mobile app, this is it.

🧠 Expanded Model & Provider Support

OpenClaw now supports GPT-5.6 compatibility across OpenAI and Codex routes, Tencent Hy3 with a complete setup path, and Meta Muse Spark 1.1 via the Meta Model API. Broader Claude, Ollama, ClawRouter, and LongCat support means more model choices and better reliability across the board.

πŸ’» Codex & Connected Coding Agents

The new openclaw attach command gives Claude Code temporary access to a selected session. Codex delegation and native subagents now return tracked results more reliably. Copilot gains broader provider choices, and long-running sessions and goals are easier to resume. For development teams, this means tighter integration between your AI agents and your coding workflow.

πŸ’¬ Major Messaging Channel Updates

  • Telegram: Live progress, photos and documents, topics, commands, retries, account routing, setup, and delivery all received substantial improvements.
  • Slack: Better threads, cards, progress indicators, identity, reactions, and duplicate prevention. Longer conversations now avoid unnecessary waits.
  • Discord: Improved replies, attachments, voice sessions, progress updates, reconnects, and multi-account behavior. Better unread cues and recovery from session-resume failures.
  • Apple Messages: Better replies, typing indicators, media handling, routing, setup guidance, and chat continuity across supported bridge setups.

πŸ›‘ Gateway Crash Loops β€” Solved

Previously, a repeatedly failing Gateway would restart indefinitely, making recovery difficult. Now, repeatedly failing Gateways leave a stable repair path instead of restarting forever. This means less downtime and faster recovery when something goes wrong.

⏰ Smarter Scheduled Work, Browser Control & Terminals

  • Scheduled work can now wake only when something actually changes β€” saving resources and reducing unnecessary runs.
  • Remote browser control lets selected signed-in browser tabs pair remotely and save completed downloads safely.
  • Guarded terminals are now available across web, iOS, and Android β€” run shell commands from anywhere with proper safety guardrails.

Improvements & Fixes

Channels & Messaging

Expanded native capabilities, clearer progress and delivery behavior, stronger media handling, and broader controls across Telegram, Slack, Discord, Signal, WhatsApp, Apple Messages, Teams, Matrix, Feishu, and other channels.

Models & Providers

More models can be discovered, selected, authenticated, and used across cloud, managed, and local routes, with clearer reasoning controls and provider-specific setup paths.

Memory, Sessions & State

Session groups, titles, unread state, checkpoints, context handling, goals, and recovery paths are now more consistent across web, mobile, CLI, and connected agents.

Tools & Automation

Browser control, downloads, cron jobs, terminals, files, search, fetch, MCP, and background task workflows all gain new capabilities and clearer controls.

Security & Credentials

Additional hardening protects tokens, secrets, approval scopes, local paths, network destinations, attachments, archives, and untrusted provider or plugin responses. Passwords and tokens stay out of more logs, sensitive controls remain limited to approved users, and unsafe downloads and network requests are blocked earlier.

Key Fixes

  • Chat delivery: Messages, progress updates, quoted replies, and media stay tied to the right conversation more reliably across reconnects and retries.
  • Gateway reliability: Startup, restart, migration, authentication, fallback, streaming, and oversized-response failures now recover more cleanly.
  • Sessions & memory: Transcript, compaction, checkpoint, cache, and search fixes reduce lost state and cross-session confusion.
  • Browser & automation: Browser actions, downloads, fetches, searches, scheduled jobs, and MCP calls now handle cancellation, malformed input, and timeouts more safely.
  • Setup & packaging: Installers, containers, plugin updates, runtime checks, and platform-specific launch paths all received recovery and compatibility fixes.

Why This Matters for Your Business

If you’re running WordPress sites, managing a team, or automating business workflows, OpenClaw 2026.7.1 delivers tangible improvements:

  • Less downtime β€” Gateway crash loop fix means your AI agent stays available when you need it.
  • Better mobile experience β€” Manage your AI agent from your phone with the fully updated iOS and Android apps.
  • More model choices β€” GPT-5.6, Tencent Hy3, and Muse Spark 1.1 give you flexibility in cost, speed, and capability.
  • Stronger security β€” Credentials are better protected, unsafe requests are blocked earlier, and approval scopes are tighter.
  • Smarter automation β€” Scheduled work that only runs when things change means less waste and more relevant alerts.
